Yangzhou Lihao Yiran Embroidery Research Institute Su Embroidery “Sunflowers”: A Brilliant Blossoming Under Yiran Embroidery.

On October 30, 2016, at the 17th China Arts and Crafts Master Works and International Art Treasures Expo 2016 Baihua Cup China Arts and Crafts Masterpiece Award selection, the Su embroidery – random-stitch embroidery work “Sunflowers,” led by Zhu Juncheng of Yangzhou Lihao Yiran Embroidery Research Institute and jointly completed by Zhu Buhua, Ma Kouxiong, Zhu Shimei, Zhu Qiuhong, Ma Kouying, Zhu Zhidan, and Zhu Youxiong, won the

Silver Award. This honor is a powerful affirmation of the work’s exquisite craftsmanship.

In terms of artistic effect, the exquisite craftsmanship of “Sunflowers” is astonishing. In the picture, sunflowers bloom brilliantly on the embroidery fabric. Each sunflower seems to have been given life, with the texture of the petals clearly visible. The unique stitching method of Yiran Embroidery perfectly presents the layering of the petals; through the interweaving of embroidery threads in different directions and lengths, the curled forms and natural folds of the sunflower petals are delicately depicted. The bright yellow petals gradually transition outward from the center, and the color gradation is natural and smooth, without any stiffness, just like real flowers under sunlight.

In the embroidery of the leaves, superb skill is also demonstrated. The colors of the leaves range from dark green to light green, and the embroiderers skillfully used the density of embroidery threads to express the light and shadow changes of the leaves. The leaf veins, as if truly growing on the leaves, are clear and full of three-dimensionality, as if one could feel the vein texture of the leaves with a gentle touch.

As for the vase holding the sunflowers, its texture is vividly presented through the use of embroidery threads. The patterns and color changes on the surface of the vase are meticulously depicted, giving an illusion of real touchability. The red tablecloth below the vase, with its folds and color blending, is also handled just right, forming a harmonious match with the sunflowers and vase above, creating a warm and vibrant atmosphere.

Through the Su embroidery work “Sunflowers,” the team led by Master Zhu Juncheng fully demonstrated the charm of the innovative craft of Yiran Embroidery, pushing artistic embroidery to a new height and adding a brilliant touch of color to Chinese arts and crafts and the development of Chinese art.
