Creation Notes
“Primal Beauty – Autumn Colors,” embroidered by Zhu Juncheng Studio, won the Bronze Award at the Yangzhou Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Expo Cultural and Art Masterpiece Competition on June 18, 2018. This work was jointly embroidered by Lu Zhihua, Wang Xianghuan, Liu Bing, Zhu Qinglan, and Du Xiaoyu, with Master Zhu Juncheng leading the creation and providing artistic guidance. Its exquisite craftsmanship is worth savoring in detail.
From the perspective of exquisite craftsmanship, this work is first admirable in its expression of color. The embroiderers accurately captured the colorful hues of the autumn forest. The red maple leaves are like fire; through delicate stitching, the embroidery threads are layered from light to dark, presenting the luster and three-dimensionality of maple leaves shining in the sunlight. The yellow leaves seem dyed by sunlight, and the density variation of the embroidery threads gives the yellow rich layering, transitioning as naturally as real leaves.
Next, look at that river, with its shimmering water. The embroiderers skillfully used silk threads to fully display the light and shadow effects of the river water. The reflections on the water surface, whether the colors or shapes of the trees, are vividly reflected. Long and short stitches interlace, embroidering the sense of flow of the water, as if the river were slowly flowing and rippling in layers.
The greenery on both banks of the river is no less impressive. The green grass and trees are lush, with different shades of green interwoven together. The dark green leaves are steady, the light green leaves are fresh, and the veins of each leaf are faintly visible, reflecting the embroiderers’ meticulous stitching.
In the work, the trees have various forms; the twists of the branches and the luxuriance of the leaves are depicted vividly. The embroiderers used the unique stitching method of Yiran Embroidery to perfectly express the density and scattering of the trees. Some branches stretch toward the sky, while others interweave with each other, creating the vigorous vitality and breathtaking scenery of a primeval forest, allowing us to see the infinite charm of Yiran embroidery art.
